You have booked a car. The plane has landed. Now what actually happens?
Most people have used a rideshare app at an airport and assume chauffeured service works the same way — open the app, find the pin, look for the licence plate. It does not, and the differences are the entire reason people book chauffeured service in the first place. Here is what to expect at Seattle-Tacoma International.
The short version
Your chauffeur tracks your flight, adjusts to delays automatically, and is in position before you reach the arrivals area. You meet them either at a designated pickup zone or inside the terminal at baggage claim, depending on the service level you booked. You do not need to call, and you do not need to hurry.
Where private car pickup happens at Sea-Tac
Your confirmation message will always carry the current instruction, and it is the version to trust. Airport layouts change; your confirmation is generated on the day.
Curbside pickup versus meet and greet
These are two different services, and it is worth knowing which one you have booked.
Curbside pickup means your chauffeur meets you at the designated vehicle zone once you have your bags. It is faster and it is the standard option. It suits travellers who know the airport, who are carrying little, or who simply want to be moving.
Meet and greet means your chauffeur parks, walks into the terminal, and waits at baggage claim holding a name sign. They help with luggage and walk you to the vehicle. It costs more because it involves parking and a person standing still, and it is worth every cent for international arrivals, first-time visitors, elderly passengers, unaccompanied minors, and anyone arriving at the end of a long-haul flight with no interest in navigating a garage.
If you are not sure which you booked, check your confirmation or ask us through the contact page.
What is actually on the sign
If you booked meet and greet, your chauffeur is holding a sign. By default it carries the lead passenger’s surname, printed clearly, professionally, and without commentary.
You can change that. Corporate clients frequently request a company name instead of a personal one for discretion. Families collecting someone after a long absence often request something warmer — and if you want the sign to be genuinely funny, we have opinions on that: see our guide to funny airport pickup signs.
Requests need to reach us before the day of travel. Put them in the notes field on the quote form or reply to your confirmation.
How flight tracking and wait time work
Your booking is attached to your flight number, not to your scheduled arrival time. If your inbound is delayed by two hours, the pickup moves by two hours, automatically, with no phone call from you.
This is the practical difference between chauffeured service and a rideshare. A rideshare driver is dispatched when you request one, from wherever they happen to be, at whatever the surge price is when your delayed flight finally lands at eleven at night. A chauffeur is already there.
Complimentary wait time typically begins after the flight actually lands rather than after the scheduled arrival, which is what protects you when immigration or baggage runs long.
International arrivals
International passengers clear customs and immigration before reaching the arrivals area, and that process is unpredictable. Build the expectation, not the anxiety: your chauffeur knows you are on an international inbound and will not be surprised by an hour in the hall.
If you are travelling internationally and it is your first time through Sea-Tac, book meet and greet. It is the single highest-value upgrade in airport transportation and the one clients thank us for most often.
Arriving with a group
If your party is arriving on multiple flights, tell us at booking. We can either hold one vehicle for a consolidated pickup once everyone is down, or run staggered vehicles — but that decision needs to be made in advance, not at the curb.
For groups, check the passenger and luggage capacities first: see our Seattle limo and car service capacity guide. Larger arrivals usually want the luxury Sprinter van; smaller ones are well served by an SUV.
Departures work the other way round
For the outbound leg, the variable is Seattle traffic rather than your flight. I-5 and SR 518 do not behave predictably, and a departure booking that works at ten in the morning does not work at four in the afternoon.
We will recommend a pickup time based on your flight and the day of the week. Take the recommendation. See the airport transfer service page for the full picture in both directions.
Tipping
Gratuity is sometimes included in the fare and sometimes not, and travellers reasonably want to know before they are standing at the kerb doing mental arithmetic. Our full breakdown is in how much to tip a limo driver.
