The Suburban is the long-wheelbase vehicle of the three. Forward of the third row the three feel much the same. Behind it they do not, and that gap is the entire decision.

The third row splits, and that is where long items go
The third row folds in two halves. Five passengers can travel with four in the first two rows, one in the third, and the other half of the third row dropped flat. That opens a long channel down one side of the load bay, which is exactly where skis, a snowboard bag, a golf travel cover, a tripod bag or a cello case want to sit. If you have one long item and five people, say so when you book, because it changes the answer from no to yes.
Rules our chauffeurs load by
- Nothing stacks above the window line. Loose weight above the head restraints is a hazard in a hard stop and it blocks the mirror, so a well that is technically full to the roof is not a well we will load.
- Soft beats hard. Six duffels routinely go where four rigid spinners will not, because duffels squash into the corners and hard shells waste the space between them.
- The 30-inch case is what breaks the maths. Two of them stood upright take most of an Escalade or Yukon rear well on their own.
- Golf covers go diagonally or not at all. A 50-inch hard cover will not sit square behind a raised third row, so four golfers travel in the first two rows with the whole third row folded, which the Suburban does comfortably.
- Skis need a folded seat. Ski and board bags are longer than any of these three cargo bays, and we do not publish a roof rack or ski rack policy, so describe the gear to dispatch and let them confirm the vehicle rather than assuming a rack is fitted.
What happens when the load is bigger than the booking
Occasionally a group arrives at the curb with more than they described. The chauffeur will load what fits safely. The threshold where a Sprinter beats an SUV
Two thresholds, in practice. The first is people: once the group passes six, one SUV stops working and the choice is two SUVs or one Sprinter. The second is bags: six passengers with two large cases each is a Sprinter booking even though six people fit in the Suburban on paper, because eleven or twelve large cases is roughly double what the Suburban well holds with every seat occupied.
